Reflect on your research topic and identify the most compelling issue connected to it. Clearly explain what the issue is and discuss why you find it particularly interesting or important. Support your response with specific details from your research.

Prompt Response: One issue that stood out to me is the pressure to look perfect, mostly because of social media and beauty standards. People are always seeing edited pictures and “ideal” bodies, which can make them feel bad about how they look. Because of this, some turn to cosmetic surgery or weight-loss drugs, even though they can have risks and don’t always make people happier. I think this is important because it affects people’s confidence and how they see themselves. It shows that the way society defines beauty can be unrealistic and harmful. Summary: Today in class we work on our projects.  Reflection: I learned how to gather all the information for the projects.

How has completing the annotated bibliography changed or clarified your understanding of your research topic? Discuss how your sources connect to one another and how they are shaping your argument moving forward.

Prompt Response: Doing the annotated bibliography helped me understand my topic better because I had to really read and think about each source. Before, I only had a basic idea, but now I see the topic more clearly. My sources connect because they talk about similar things, like causes, effects, and results of the issue. Some give facts, and others explain opinions or studies, but together they support each other. This is helping me figure out my main argument and what points I should focus on. Summary: Today in class we work on our projects.  Reflection: I learned more about cosmetic surgery from the projects.

Which part of the annotated bibliography (summary, reflection, or evaluation) was the most challenging for you, and why? Explain how that challenge helped you grow as a researcher and how it will help you when writing your research paper.

Prompt Response: The most challenging part for me was the reflection. It was hard to clearly explain how the source connects to my research question instead of just repeating what the article said. I had to really think about what the information means and how I can use it in my paper. This challenge helped me get better at understanding my sources, not just reading them. It also will help me when writing my research paper because I’ll be able to connect my evidence back to my main idea more clearly and explain why it matters. Summary: Today in class we work on our projects.  Reflection: I learned more about research for the projects.

As you gathered sources, you were expected to find multiple perspectives on your topic. What differences did you notice between your sources? Explain how these differences helped you better understand the complexity of your issue.

Prompt Response: When I was gathering sources, I started to notice that not everyone agreed on the topic. Some sources made cosmetic surgery sound like a good thing, saying it can help people feel more confident and happier with how they look. But other sources focused more on the downsides, like how it can affect mental health or make people feel like they have to look perfect. Some articles shared real people’s experiences, while others used facts and studies. Seeing these different points of view made me realize the topic is more complicated than I first thought. It helped me understand that cosmetic surgery can have both positive and negative effects, and it really depends on the person and their situation. Summary: Today in class we work on our projects.  Reflection: I learned a new way to research for projects.

Think about your experience using GALILEO to find sources. How was this different from how you have searched for information in the past? Explain how using specific search strategies and evaluating sources impacted the quality of what you found.

Prompt Response: Using GALILEO felt different from how I usually search for information. Before, I would just type something into Google and click on the first links I saw without thinking much. With GALILEO, I had to use better keywords and search in a smarter way. This helped me find information that was more clear and more about my topic. I also checked who wrote the source and if it could be trusted. Because of this, the information I found was better and more correct. It helped me understand my topic more easily. Summary: Today in class we did some research projects.  Reflection: I learned to get more information for the project .

Political cartoons often use exaggeration and symbolism to make a point, and they can also serve as important visual sources for analysis. What is being criticized in this image? What does this source suggest about the issue, and what does the cartoonist want the audience to question or reconsider?

Prompt Response: This cartoon is showing that leaders are trying to distract people. The man is pointing and talking about Iran and Israel so people look at that. But behind him, big problems are happening in the United States. A large elephant called “Big Beautiful Bill” is crushing Uncle Sam, which means the country is being hurt. There is also a police officer chasing someone, showing problems with immigration. The cartoon is saying that while leaders talk about other countries, they are ignoring problems at home. The artist wants people to question this and think more about what is really happening in the U.S. Summary: Today in class we worked on our research project.  Reflection: I learned more research ideas for the project .

Think about how you have searched for information in the past compared to what you practiced today. How is creating specific search phrases different from just “Googling” a topic? Explain how this strategy will improve the quality of your research.

Prompt Response: Before, I would just type a topic into Google and click whatever showed up first. Now I know that using specific search phrases helps me get better results. It lets me find more accurate and useful information instead of random websites. It also saves time because I don’t have to search through so many pages. This strategy will make my research better and easier to understand. Summary: Today in class we started researching for our project.  Reflection: I learned how to research for our group project properly .

Your research question is designed to explore a complex issue. What makes this topic difficult to answer or solve? Identify at least two different perspectives or factors related to your topic and explain why understanding multiple viewpoints is important.

Prompt Response: Plastic surgery is a topic that people see in different ways, so it’s not easy to fully agree on one answer. Some people think it’s helpful because it can boost confidence and help someone feel better about how they look, especially if they had an accident, scars, or something they’ve always felt insecure about. But other people see it differently and think it’s not necessary or can be dangerous, and they also feel like social media and beauty standards push people to change how they look. It can also be expensive and has health risks, which makes people think twice. Understanding both sides is important because everyone has their own reasons and experiences, and seeing only one viewpoint doesn’t give the full picture. Summary: Today in class we start working on a group project.  Reflection: I learned more about our group project .

Reflect on your past experiences with research in school. What challenges have you faced when working independently or in a group, and how did you handle them? Explain how those experiences will influence the way you approach this current research project.

Prompt Response: In the past, research projects haven’t always been easy for me. When I worked alone, I would sometimes get distracted or feel overwhelmed by how much information there was, and I ended up waiting until the last minute to finish. In group projects, it was frustrating when some people didn’t do their part, which made the work harder for everyone else. To deal with this, I started breaking the project into smaller steps, like researching one day and writing another, and I tried to communicate more with my group so everyone knew what they had to do. Because of these experiences, I’m going to handle this research project better by starting earlier, staying organized, and managing my time. If I’m in a group, I’ll make sure to communicate clearly and do my part so everything goes more smoothly. Summary:  Today in class we worked on common lit. Reflection:  I learned about a new story .
