This reminds me of Chris McCandless and Carine McCandless in Into the Wild. Chris felt understood by Carine in a way he didn’t with others. Their bond was strong, but his decision to leave made their relationship more painful.

We split the work so each person had something to do, like finding sources or writing a part. We made sure everyone understood their job. While working, we would ask each other how it was going and help if someone was confused. If someone was falling behind, we would remind them in a respectful way.
