Thanksgiving is a time for giving thanks and spending time with family over a nice dinner. Write about your most unforgettable meal.

Prompt Response:My most unforgettable meal was my first Thanksgiving dinner at my aunt's house. smelled so good, like turkey, stuffing, and pumpkin pie. The food was yummy, especially the juicy turkey and creamy potatoes. Being with all my family, talking and laughing, made it even better. It was a happy first Thanksgiving with everyone together. Summary: Today in class we took a group quiz. Reflection:  I had new experiences with group quiz.

Write about a time when you realized you needed to look out for yourself in a silly or harmless situation—maybe dodging a pop quiz, escaping a group chat argument, or remembering at the last second to submit an assignment. How did choosing wisely make your life easier?

Prompt Response: A group chat fight got out of hand. I realized engaging would just add stress. So, I muted the chat. This protected my peace and kept me from unnecessary drama. It was a wise choice for my own well-being. Summary: Today in class we finished reading the story. Reflection: I learned about a new story.

Describe a time that you had an encounter with a homeless person, either directly or indirectly. What did you think and how did it make you feel?

Prompt Response: One time, I saw someone asking for money at a busy street corner, and it made me feel sad for them. Their old clothes and tired face looked very different from the fast cars. It made me think about how we often don't see people who are having a hard time. I felt thankful for my safe home, but also a little bit bad. It reminded me to be kinder and pay more attention to everyone.  Summary: Today in class we start  reading "The Life You Save May Be Your Own" Reflection: I learned about a new story.

Write about what you are thankful for.

Prompt Response: I'm so thankful for my friends. They feel like the family I choose for myself. They always support me and help me grow. They are there for me through all the good times and the bad. I really appreciate having them in my life. Summary:Today in class we work on Lesson 3 vocabulary. Reflection: I learned some new vocabulary words.

The last scene forces readers to reinterpret Emily’s entire life. Write about a moment when new information changes your perception of a person or situation. How did that “plot twist” reshape your understanding, the same way Faulkner’s ending reshapes the story?

Prompt Response: Learning about my grandfather's bravery in our country's war of freedom completely changed how I saw him. Before, I just saw a quiet man living a simple life. But knowing he fought in that war made his quietness feel like strength. It showed me he'd been through so much and carried big sacrifices. Now, his whole life feels connected to our country's story, not just his own. Summary: Today in class my classmate took a test but I did not. Reflection:  I came in late so I did not take the test.

In “A Rose for Emily,” Miss Emily’s actions shock the reader—she kills her fiancé and keeps his body in her home for years. People often react with disbelief when they hear about real-life stories that seem just as unbelievable. Write about the most shocking or “craziest” news story you have ever heard. What happened, and why did it stand out to you? How did people react to it, and what does it reveal about human behavior?

Prompt Response: The craziest news I heard was about a lady who everyone thought was dead.  Then, she showed up at her own funeral. It was a big mistake someone made. People were surprised and happy she was alive. It shows that mistakes can happen anywhere. Summary: Today in class we will read and watch the movie "A Rose for Emily". Reflection: I learned a new story that was quite interesting.

Prompt: Miss Emily’s house once represented pride and tradition, but over time it became a symbol of decay and isolation. Describe a place that holds deep memories for you—positive or negative—and explain how it reflects part of who you are or how you’ve changed over time.

Prompt Response:   My old tree house was built with my dad and it was our special place for imagining adventures. We used to pretend to be explorers and inventors up there. As I got older, we stopped going as much, and it became quiet and forgotten. Now, seeing it makes me think about how much I've grown from being a kid to an adult. It reminds me that even though things change, the memories we make are super important. Summary: Today in class we work on A Rose for Emily. Reflection:  I learned about a new story by  William Faulkner.

Think about the vocabulary words from Lesson Two. Write about a time you saw or heard one of these words outside of the classroom — maybe in a movie, song, social media post, or book. Describe how it was used and whether the context helped you understand the word better.

Prompt Response:   Bedlam means a lot of noise and confusion. I saw it in a book about a crazy party. Everyone was yelling and running around. The book used "bedlam" to show how messy things were. It helped me understand the word better by seeing it in that wild scene. Summary: Today in class we worked on lesson 2 vocabulary exercise 1. Reflection: I learn new vocabulary words.

Thinking about “The Rockpile,” which parent or guardian in your life has been the strictest when it comes to discipline? Explain how their approach to discipline has influenced you or shaped your behavior.

Prompt Response:   My mom was the strictest when it came to discipline, and it really shaped me. She always made it clear what she expected from me, like with school or behavior. If I messed up, there were always consequences, and they were always the same. This helped me learn to be responsible and manage myself better, making me more reliable. Summary: Today I work on the group project. Reflection: I learned a new way to use PowerPoint.

Thinking about "The Rockpile," what is something your parents forbade you from doing when you were growing up? Explain what it was and why they might have set that rule.

Prompt Response: When I was little, my parents forbade me from playing in the old, abandoned house down the street. It looked really creepy and they said it was dangerous because it was old. They were scared I'd get hurt if I went inside or if something fell on me. They just wanted to make sure I stayed safe. Summary: Today in class we start a group project. Reflection: I learned about a new story.

Words shape how we think, write, and interpret literature. Think about a time when learning a new word or understanding a specific term helped you better analyze a text, express an idea, or make your writing stronger.

Prompt Response:   I think learning new words helps me understand texts better. Discovering words for things that pass quickly opened my eyes to poetry. It made poems about fleeting beauty and feelings much clearer. My writing also became more precise and deeper. Summary: Today in class we did Lesson I vocabulary activity. Reflection: I learn some new vocabulary.
